For most of my life, I was so afraid of the dentist that I refused to go until I had a real problem. One Thanksgiving, I had a toothache and, since I was not a regular patient of any dentist, I asked a friend to help me. My friend called Dr. Splane at home and he met me at his office. Sometime later, I started thinking about a “cosmetic” issue with my teeth. I have always been self-conscious about a very unsightly gap where two of my front teeth turn in opposite directions. I always hated it, put my hand over my mouth when laughing and turned my head so that it did not show in pictures. Dr. Splane talked to me about fixing the gap, and with his very gentle, humorous and caring manner he explained in detail what would happen and that I would instantly be happy with the results. Within weeks, I had the first step behind me and I was very happy with the temporaries. I smiled more and shared my excitement with everyone I knew. When Dr. Splane handed me the mirror after putting on the permanent caps, I began to cry. After 35 years of adult life, I am finally proud of my smile! Dr. Splane and his very professional staff have nurtured me gently, educated me carefully and helped me reach a place where I go to the dentist and floss regularly, and as a result I have healthy teeth and gums.
